Whether you’re recovering from surgery, an injury, wanting to lose weight, or a young athlete trying to pack on lean muscle in the off-season, you have unique and specific nutritional needs, which can vary depending on your individual requirements. With the abundance of fad or cookie cutter diets saturating the market, we felt our patients need a customized approach to improve their outcomes to reach their long-term health and performance goals.

At Covington Orthopedics, our Sports and Lifestyle Dietitian will provide you with a valuable adjunct to the medical specialties available, providing individualized programs for the recovering patient to the amateur or professional athlete.

We help individuals of all ages understand that sound nutrition are critically important pieces of the rehabilitation and performance puzzle.

Post Injury Rehabilitation Nutrition Services
After an injury, your diet plays a critical role at improving recovery, healing, and reducing pain by controlling inflammation and soreness. It also assists with repairing injured joints and tissues. Certain nutrients and supplements have healing properties that can help your recover a little faster as opposed to if you were not eating a well-balanced diet. Below is a list of the services included in our Post Injury Rehabilitation package.

Post Injury Rehabilitation Package – Individual

  • 60 minute nutrition consultation with Sports and Lifestyle Dietitian
  • Assessment of 3 day food log to evaluate eating patterns & behaviors to determine course of action
  • Customized meal plan to meet individual and post injury and rehabilitation needs to facilitate recovery and healing
  • A review of foods that improve healing vs. foods that impair healing
  • A review of nutrition supplements that will facilitate healing/recovery
  • Grocery list of appropriate foods to include in household
  • 30 minute follow up appointment to reassess progress and goals

Post Injury/Rehab Nutrition Package

Group Session – (3-5 patients)

  • 60 minute group consultation with Sports and Lifestyle Dietitian
  • Review of 3 day food log to evaluate eating patterns & behaviors to determine course of action
  • Sports Dietitian will provide individualized feedback via email regarding patient food log with recommendations and guidelines
  • A review of foods that improve healing vs. foods that impair healing
  • A review of nutrition supplements that will facilitate healing/recovery
  • Grocery list of appropriate foods to include in household

Weight Management Nutrition Services

Weight loss is 90% nutrition. Our nutrition program is a comprehensive approach to teaching you how to incorporate the combination of the right macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, and fat) with the correct meal times to maximize weight and body fat loss. Our Sports and Lifestyle Dietitian takes an individualized approach with each patient to ensure their individual needs are being met. Below is a list of the services included in our Weight Management package.
  • 660 minute nutrition consultation with Sports and Lifestyle Dietitian
  • Assessment of 3 day food log to evaluate eating patterns & behaviors to determine course of action
  • Customized meal plan to meet individual caloric needs for weight loss
  • Meal plan provides appropriate eating times to assist client with establishing an eating schedule to control hunger and portions
  • Sports & Lifestyle Dietitian will work with client to establish healthy options when dining out.
  • Sports & Lifestyle Dietitian will obtain the menus from the restaurant the client frequents and create healthy options to provide to the client.
  • Sports & Lifestyle Dietitian will provide a client with a Healthy Grocery List
  • Sports & Lifestyle Dietitian will design a nutrition supplement plan to assist with weight loss, body fat, and health goals (only if necessary based on assessment).
  • All products recommended will comply with safe testing and manufacturing guidelines that will and comply with testing policies
  • 30 minute follow up appointment (client will also have access to Sports Dietitian if needed by email, phone, or text for length of services)
  • DEXA Body Fat Scan (i.e. most accurate method of assessing body fat) to be conducted at Covington Orthopedics

4 Week Program (includes 1 DEXA Body Fat Scan)

8 Week Program (includes 2 DEXA Body Fat Scans)

Sports Nutrition Services for Athletes

Nutrition is the most important component to help an athlete reach their full potential. It’s also the missing link that athletes don’t tend to think about when developing a plan to improve performance. A good diet improves energy, strength, power, recovery, health, and can minimize your chance for getting sick which keeps you on the field, court, or mat much longer. Our Sports Dietitian has helped over 1000 high school, college, and professional athletes develop a plan to maximize their full performance potential. Below is a list of the services included in our Athlete Nutrition package.

  • 60 minute consultation with athlete and parent (if athlete is under 17 or younger)
  • Customized meal plan to meet individual caloric needs for weight gain or loss
  • 10-12 options for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks will be provided to include a variety of options
  • Meal plan provides appropriate fueling times based on training schedule to help athlete perform at his highest level in addition to ensuring full recovery.
  • Sports Dietitian will work with athlete and parents to establish healthy options when dining out.
  • Healthy Fast Food Guide included
  • Sports Dietitian will obtain the menus from the restaurant the athlete frequents and create healthy options to provide to the client.
  • Sports Dietitian will provide a athlete and parent with an “Athlete’s Grocery List”
  • Sports Dietitian will design a nutrition supplement plan to assist with weight loss, body composition, performance, and overall health goals (only if necessary based on assessment).
  • All products recommended will comply with safe testing and manufacturing guidelines that will and comply with testing policies (NSF and Informed Choice Labs).
  • 30 minute follow up appointment (Athlete and Parent will have access to Sports Dietitian if needed by email, phone, or text for length of services)
  • DEXA Body Fat Scan (i.e. most accurate method of assessing body fat)
