Sports Medicine

Playing With PainSports Medicine examines how the human body functions during physical activity. The primary focus of Sports Medicine is the treatment of athletic injuries such as harmful rotations or deformations of joints, muscles or bones. These injuries can result in stiffness, fractures, sprains, strains, joint pains, tendonitis and other musculoskeletal injuries.

In addition to treatment and diagnosis, Sports Medicine also includes prevention as well as rehabilitation. Prevention includes the implementation of healthy dietary practices, preparative exercises, the use of protective equipment, and the determination of pre-existing conditions or other potential factors that may increase the risk of injuries. The treatment of injuries can include surgery as well as other restorative treatments. Rehabilitation is necessary for the patient to safely return to physical activities with minimized risks of complications.

Specialized treatments and surgical procedures are used to treat the following conditions:

  • Shoulder arthroscopy
  • Shoulder instability
  • Rotator Cuff pain and injuries
